For example, the Quadra2 station demonstrates the proven reliability of Tomtec robotics for fluid handling. Quadra2 uses a robust design. The sophisticated pipette head is rigidly bolted to the frame for reliability by moving the microplate towards the pipette head.
The Quadra2 uses a precision 450 μL pipette head. Quadra automated heads deliver the most accurate results for even the most challenging laboratory protocols. It also utilizes a patented displacement timed dosing function that allows pressurized air to be blown through the tip opening under software control. By using the timed dispensing function, you can empty the contents of the tip without touching the liquid in the plate. This allows the same reagent to be added to multiple plates without contaminating the tips. The timed dosing function is extremely important when dosing both aqueous and organic substances. You can remove organic vapors using the timing function and then gently pipet the aqueous solution.
Assembling one device and conducting a test run revealed a number of malfunctions:
-
Hose / connection seams and flush fluid reservoir lid gaskets could not withstand air pressure. (the problem was eliminated with the help of a heat / pressure resistant sealant, having missed all seams and joints)
-
When the carriage passed to the extreme left position, the edge of the main platform was hooked, as a result of which the carriage returned to the zero position and completed the cycle of spilling the plates. (fixed with platform / cover adjustment)
-
The locking flags on the column with the plates were not adjusted, as a result of which the plates either clamped or fell out. (the problem was eliminated by adjusting the guides)
-
During the digging / pouring of the wells of the plates, after pumping out the liquid in the “washing mode,” a leak of 3 - 5 nozzles was formed. (in the course of troubleshooting, the engineer revealed a weak formation of vacuum, the problem was eliminated by purchasing a more powerful vacuum pump and setting the software for timing, also by adjusting the check valve “handle to the right of the operator”).
-
In the “washing and cleaning the wells” mode, the wells were dried unevenly with the remainder of 0.0025 μL.
The device in the installation is simple, but requires a lot of attention to vacuum and air pressure, in the event of a leak, the entire system starts to work incorrectly, not according to the specified software mode.
Any of the 16 modes can be manually adjusted according to all parameters as required by the operator.
During the training, the personnel were fully prescribed each required mode and the importance of checking the tightness of the air and vacuum system before starting, and turning off the vacuum and air supply from the device at the time of its non-use for more than 1 hour.
