In the QuantStudio 3D system, DNA amplification and evaluation of PCR products are carried out in a nanofluidic chip with 20,000 cells, each of which is an independent volume with its own reaction mixture. Some of these reactions contain the target molecule (positive), while others do not (negative). The ratio of the number of positive and negative PCRs is used to calculate the total number of molecules in a sample.
